Masindi leaders for Older Persons trained in will writing to prevent family conflicts

Leaders for Older Persons in Masindi District have undergone training on lawful Will writing as part of efforts to reduce family conflicts and property disputes that often arise after the death of a family head.
During the training held on Friday at the District Headquarters, Counsel Hadijah Mbabazi of Akugizibwe and Company Advocates, emphasized that avalid will must be written when the testator or testatrix is in sound mind and acting without coercion.
She explained that the document must be signed by the writer and witnessed by at least two people and should ideally be produced in multiple copies.
Counsel Hadijah noted that, every will must include an introductory section, containing the writer's name, address,age,clan, religion and birth details.
The main body,she added, should clearly outline marital status, biological children, dependants, guardians,heir(s), personal property and any creditors or debtors.
Speaking at the same event, Frederick Kyomya, Assistant Veterinary Officer representing the District Production Officer, encouraged Older Persons to invest in manageable livestock enterprises such as goat rearing, piggery and Poultry.
He said these ventures require little space and minimal physical effort yet yield substantial income, making them ideal for the elderly.
The District Community Development Officer (DCDO), Godfrey Bahemuka, urged older persons to embrace government empowerment programs tailored to their needs including SAGE and SEGOP.
On her part,Kevin Nyambubi, Acting Principal Nursing Officer at Masindi General Hospital, advised the elderly to frequently monitor their weight and undergo regular medical check-ups to maintain good health.
Closing the engagement, Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (PACAO),Musa Kyamiza, encouraged participants to engage in light physical exercises, maintain abalanced diet and avoid excessive consumption of oily foods and alcohol.
He stressed that adopting healthy habits will greatly improve their well-being and extend their life span.
